Ijburg 2008
A photo series of the town of Ijburg under construction in 2008.
Ijburg is located East of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
Ijburg is a planned city built on six man-made islands that were built specifically to hold the city. The neighborhood was intended to have residential buildings as well as schools, businesses, and other amenities. People were already starting to move into residential buildings when I took these photos, but the schools and businesses were not yet established so residents had to commute off island to Amsterdam for food, school, and other essential services. As of 2013, Ijburg is still under construction.
